We revisit a incredibly fun Week 8, in which New Trier finally got Glenbrook South, Loyola mounted a serious comeback to remain unbeaten and Highland Park hung on for its fifth win. Trevs QB Jackie…
So Joe, we had, we had a lot of good football going on in our area in week number eight, a lot of good football games going, three big wins for our area teams.
So I'll let you pick, Joe, which one do you want to start with? Because I don't feel like there's really a bad way to start here.
Well, Joe, you and I, obviously, last week we talked about, you know, obviously two undefeated teams, two perennial state contenders in Loyola and IC Catholichood.
I think you and I were both of the mindset of IC Catholic has a lot of power for talent, but obviously just with the different sizes in schools, we thought that Loyola was going to be able to get the best of IC Catholic at the end.
And that part kind of became true, but obviously I don't think it came to fruition the way we expected to.
and also needed a mound to come back in order to beat I.C. Catholic and stay undefeated on the season.
Yeah, I think if we were braggadocious about this, we could say that, yeah, we got it totally right, that Loyola would outlast I.C. Catholic.
But we certainly did not predict this game script and how it would go and that I.C. Catholic would take a a pretty commanding 18-point lead at one point, 35-17.
35 points in the first half, something like, I don't remember who put it out there.
Did not see that coming, but Loyola just, man, rose to the occasion in the second half, took it personally, as we like to say, and shut them out in the second half.
And then, of course, their offense just kind of kept cooking and a little more than the first half to get that comeback.
And some of the plays that we saw, the catches from Jordan McKinley, the throws from Matthew Lee, and some of the runs from Maldonado, there's some videos out there.
