Have you ever looked around and realised that your marriage feels different, your friendships have changed, your children need you in new ways and your parents are getting older, all at the same time?…
You have had so much life that's occurred that has changed you and shaped you that you can't just go back to being somebody that you were before that stuff.
And the thing is, in the middle of life, this shift is taking place with a few different types of relationships.
It's shifted from that young childcare to flying in the nest or getting ready to take exams or begin to think about independent decisions.
Your own parents are aging and are going to need you in a way that they didn't before.
And you've got a whole accumulation of life experience that you're now carrying with you that will both be positive and have a shed load of life disappointments in there as well.
And painful things like the loss of a friend or grief of the actual loss of a person, right? job career not looking like you thought it might, or a hurtful family situation with somebody, a divorce, a relocation, a situation that didn't turn out how you thought it would, financial challenges, house moves that didn't go.
You know, there's a whole load of things, if you stop and think about them, are now part of your baggage and personality that all converge around this midlife point where actually we're under quite a lot of pressure.
We're under a lot of pressure because we're also in the time, statistically, you're in the time where you're most likely to have the most responsibility at work as well as at home, as well as in other capacities.
You might well find yourself being a trustee of a charity in this season of your life or some other voluntary capacity that you've taken on.
And alongside all of that happening, there's this thing that's going on where your relationships are also shifting.
You are finding that these different core relationships in your life are looking a bit different.
Your midlife is a period of time where your identity is going through a bit of a revision.
