Episode 559: Why AI Projects Get Worse Before They Get Better

PMI says that artificial intelligence is now part of the PMP exam.

So, what are you supposed to study? Is it prompt engineering? Machine learning? How chat GPT actually works? Any of these others here? The answer is none of it.

None of those things are on the PMP exam.

So then...

What is? What about AI is actually being tested? I'll show you what PMI says about that, what AI questions are really testing, and how much AI you genuinely need to know for the PMP exam because it isn't zero.

And there'll even be a few sample scenarios.

So what is PMI actually saying? This here is the cover of the PMP exam content outline, which is the governing document for the exam.

In it, you'll find domains, tasks and enablers which describe everything that can be on the PMP exam.

And every exam question is written against these specifications.

Artificial intelligence is mentioned exactly once in the introduction, in a paragraph about how the exam was built.

They write, with the emergence of several trends in the profession previously unaddressed in the PMP certification exam, such as artificial intelligence, AI, and sustainability, it was critical that PMI evaluate the impacts of these trends on professional practice expectations.

In other words, this is PMI telling you that AI is changing how we project managers work and that AI was part of their research.

Only their research.

And nowhere do they say that they will test your knowledge of AI.
