On Trial Australia - The Patterson Court Watchers

Was the trial what you expected?

expected?Um, yes and no.

Like, I had the basics of a trial.

Um, like I said, I walked in there with no expectations.

I think a lot of people think trials are like what you see in America.

Mm-hmm.

Um, you know, and the big whole-

Which is fair, 'cause that's what they see.

Yeah.

You know, you, the judge banging on the table, and people yelling out, "Objection," and stuff, and it's not like that.

I think, um, the most surprising part was just how well, like, the defense and Crown, like, respect each other, and like, you know, I don't even know you can use the words get along, but you know, they got along.

They were, they respected each other's job and, um, yeah, so that was probably the part that I was like, oh.

It's more of a workplace-

Yeah

...

in a way, a professional relationship than-

Yeah

... than you might expect.

The different characters that you have come in can also affect that for you sometimes.

There's certain barristers, uh, and um, and Crown prosecutors that have different personalities and, you know-

Yeah

... different trials and can, I guess, bring a different emotion.

Maybe you really start to like one side, and then the other side changes, and you're thinking, "Oh, you know, I love that jab or that dig," or you start to really watch the finite details of what's happening rather than-

100%

... just the bigger picture.
