If you're joining us today for the first time, or maybe the first time in a long time, we are in the middle, we are in week three of a six-week sermon series, which is kicking off the launch to a two-year generosity initiative.
And this is a special and unique moment in the life of our church where we're setting aside some extended time to ask God one very important question.
God, what would you have me do? What would you have us do as McCook Christian Church? Why generosity? powerful thing that we see all through the scriptures is that generosity generates transformation.
God uses our generosity, the opening of our hands, trusting him with our finances, our resources, our time, our treasure, our talents, to do something in us, and not just in us, but through us.
And so this morning we continue on our journey and a lot of you have gotten a guidebook.
Anybody bring their guidebook with them today? You guys are so much better than first gathering.
Good job.
If you were not here one of the last two weeks or didn't make it home with one of these, please grab one.
You can feel free to hop up.
They're just right up past these doors.
They'll get one for you.
But one of the things that we've pointed out, and we'll talk more about this in just a second, Page 24, we started going through this giving journey, and this is a tool that we have, it's a diagnostic tool, okay? This is something that's hopefully helpful as each of us are taking a good look, a good hard look at, God, where am I? Where do you want me to take a step? Are you inviting me to deeper trust through my giving, through my generosity? Last week we pointed out the initial giver, and I love that the journey of generosity always has a start.
For every single person, the most generous person that you have ever met in your life had a day one, had a gift that began.
And I know a lot of us in this room are wrestling with that.
God, is this something you're calling me to, to maybe step out for the very first time to give? And the second, that I would just kinda wanna point out this morning is this consistent giver, number two.
And again, this is not a ladder to climb, right? This is not us trying to achieve level five status so we can gain something from God, but it's hopefully, again, a diagnostic and assessment of where are we, where am I, God, and where might you be calling me next? And so this morning, as we kinda look at what it means to be a consistent giver and the importance of that, Here's why I think that consistency in giving is a real step of discipleship and not just a better accounting system.
