Choking during sex is now so normalised among teenagers that most of them don't even clock it as a red flag. That's the world we're navigating — and in this episode, I sat down with the Shel and Drew…
Today I have got with me Shail Norris, the founding executive director, and Drew Davis, the director of strategic initiatives of Safe Bay.
Safe Bay is the only US national survivor-founded youth-led organization working to prevent sexual violence among teens.
They have both dedicated their careers to ending sexual violence and empowering youth activism.
Yeah, with Shale about a year ago maybe and we were speaking about sexual violence prevention in schools and universities.
And I think every parent, every educator, basically every person with young folk in their life should listen to it to really bring themselves up to speed with what's actually going on in school environments and how to mitigate harm and how to support the young people around them.
You can search up Safe Bay or Shale Norris or sexual violence prevention in schools, stuff like that, and you'll find it.
But today, we've got Drew with us as well, and I'm super excited to be chatting with these guys because sometimes I get nervous before interviews, especially if I don't know the guest personally or whatever, but we've had a bit of contact over the last year, and I was just excited to hang out with you two.
We're going to be covering things from a different angle, and I want to talk about a new tool that...
It's a free anonymous reflection tool that helps young people navigate questions of consent, harm, accountability and repair.
It's an accessible, non-judgmental intervention grounded in the real contexts young people are navigating.
It's for young people who think that they might have caused harm or violated someone's boundaries to have a place to go online where they can safely educate themselves.
And I can't wait to hear how it's all been going since you've launched a few months ago.
