Three stories you need to know today. Ethiopia retakes Mekelle airport: Federal forces have pushed the TPLF out of Tigray's capital airport. With Eritrea and Ethiopia no longer talking, the risk of a…
Ethiopian federal forces have retaken Alula Aba Niger Airport, bloody hell, in Mekele, which is the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, seized on the 23rd of September, which kind of kicked this whole conflict off.
Humanitarian sources report that the rebel units left the city before the federal forces arrived.
the fighting is the worst conflict since the civil war ended in 2022 in that civil war there was 600 000 people killed and it comes days after the ethiopian and eurotrain governments cut diplomatic ties and expelled each other's diplomats so what i do find it quite interesting that the tplf have just kind of folded so quickly on their own capital city it doesn't like what are they trying to do here what are they trying to achieve I don't really know I don't know if they're trying to withdraw to consolidate their forces and possibly bring in support from Eritrean forces or if this is just how it's going to go and that the TPLF don't really actually have the ability to conduct combat operations against the Ethiopian federal forces if the latter is the case then I think this could get wrapped up pretty quickly and you know the Eritrean Ethiopian federal forces will take over pretty quick and restore peace and prosperity to the northern region.
Not really, but hey.
But then if the former is true and the TPLF are trying to consolidate their forces, it could indicate that we're heading towards a bit more of a protracted conflict.
Either way, the federal forces are making pretty good advances so far.
And it's not, I'll keep an eye on it because I don't really know what's going to happen, but it could get pretty spicy pretty quickly.
