Spomer and Schroeder were on the ground at the inaugural Whistler World Cup, and the post-race stoke was too high not to talk about it. The crowd was legendary, the track was quintessential Whistler…
Lars SternbergHostBefore we go, uh, into some more specifics about the race, I wanna kick it off with asking Jason how you got such an insane shot of Henry Kiefer's crash off the drop when he went off footless.
But then he goes into oblivion, just a sea of people, but you manage to pull up onto the monitor and basically get like the second half of the crash with your iPhone, and then you get-- Once that happens, you zoom down over to where he is, like, you know, real time.
I had like-- I mean, he was, he was like-- I forget what he qualified, so there had been a handful of people before him.
And so I had realized when I was filming before that, yeah, you pan and you lose people, you lose them in the sea of people in front of me.
And so as he's like flying through the air, I had that thought of like, "I don't really wanna keep watching this," and I know I don't have to 'cause he's gonna disappear in a moment, but just was like, oh, like do it for the viral clip.
It, it's like a weird, uh, depth feeling thing, like watching the video back even, because like you kinda get like pulled to a different angle, but like in the same shot.
Like I can't think of how, like the last time we had, if ever, a feature like near a finish line that just eliminated so many people.
Like there was Jackson's crash, the, uh, I'm forgetting her name, the girl on Norco, the junior girl crashed I think in a race run.
There was a handful of other people that had issues and like you can find some angles of that drop from behind, like between the, the last right-hand berm and where the woods starts, and it's ugly.
