We are about to delve into our first episode about 1976, which I'm very excited about.

But before we do that, I think we would be remiss being a music podcast, albeit a heavy music podcast, but any kind of podcast without acknowledging the loss of the great Clyde Davis, who died about a week ago now as of recording this.

He has a particular role to play in tonight's topic, which we will speak to in a few minutes.

But I want to just read quickly the list of some of the artists that Clive Davis was involved in.

So he first kind of came to prominence by hiring a young recording artist named Tony Orlando, famously becoming Tony Orlando and Don, a very signature, important musical portion of my childhood.

And again, this is an abbreviated list of artists that Clive Davis signed and or worked with.

Pink Floyd, Sly and the Family Stone, Janis Joplin, Santana, Bruce Springsteen, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, Donovan, The Bay City Rollers, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Luther Vandross, Loggins and Messina, Ace of Base, Gavin DeGraw, Whitney Houston, and on and on and on.

R.I.P. It's hard to overstate his influence in music and that list of artists just shows you the breadth and depth of his penetration into the industry and he was He was an attorney.

He just thought he liked something and saw something in somebody that he liked, and he went with it.

Yeah, he plays a very interesting role in tonight's conversation, which we will dive into now, but not before we lean into the year of our Lord, 1976.
