2 Things Perfectionists Obsess About

The first one that revolves around so much that they do and think revolves around fixing.

They have a fixation on fixing.

They're constantly trying to fix themselves.

They're constantly trying to fix how they feel before God, and they get locked into trying to fix other people as well, too.

Fixing, fixing, fixing.

It's a way that they seek to feel safe.

It's a way that they seek to feel okay.

It's their sense of safety.

So imperfections or any disturbance become alarm bells in their life.

So it's a way that they try to navigate a sense of certainty.

They like to latch on to a sense of certainty by making sure they fix.

So when it comes to their spiritual life, it gets into making sure that their salvation is secure and fixed.

And on the surface, that sounds great as a Christian, as a believer.

When this is under torment and duress and so many are feeling unsure and so they go after their salvation to make sure it's right, make sure it's right.

Maybe even other teachers will reinforce that.

You got to make sure because if you're unsure, so am I too.

And That statement actually causes a lot of believers to unnecessarily spin and fixate on trying to get that just right.

They're obsessed with fixing their standing.

So they become very sin-focused.

They're examining themselves constantly.

If you examine yourself with a lens of fixing, if you examine yourself with a lens of constantly trying to make sure that you're scrubbing things, if you're sin-focused in your life, where it becomes the dominant main thing you're looking out for, you're always going to find things.

You're going to find an endless list of flaws, mistakes, weaknesses, failures.

Whatever you want to name it, sin issues, strongholds, you're going to find a whole list of them.

But you become preoccupied with this now.

And so, like I was, most of my Christian life, I spent, when it came to interacting with God in prayer, reading my Bible, and even in Christian service, it was trying to neutralize this disturbance that I felt inside.
