Welcome to the Greenhill Forge Podcast, with Eric from the Greenhill Forge YouTube channel, and my buddy Amal, a fellow builder of many trades. In this podcast we’ll talk about where the real world…
Yeah, so today we're going to be talking about our favorite tools in the metal shop.
And this is, you know, just with no rhyme or reason, just the tools that either you really enjoy using or you pick up all the time because they're just so useful.
So I'll kick it off with probably a pretty boring tool, but I use this thing probably more than anything else, and it's an angle grinder.
I actually, I do really like using an angle grinder.
They're super versatile, cut, clean shape.
You can do so much with it.
And if you really had to, you could basically do all your cutting and all your cleaning with an angle grinder.
not going to be the greatest work environment, but you could get everything done.
And I just pick, I like, there's almost no day in a metal shop that it isn't at least 20% of my time spent with the angle grinder.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
I agree.
I think most of the time in the shop, probably 80% of the time is prepping material, cutting, cleaning, wire wheeling, getting all the mill scale off of the steel before you're ready to weld.
Yeah.
And then the other 20% is welding.
But majority of the time, metalworking, you're just prepping and cutting material and getting it ready with the grinder.
Most of our jobs will...
Cut off our metal out, then we wire wheel all the edges to get rid of mill scale.
We'll weld a lot of the railings.
We come back, put a sand disk, flap disk on it, feather the edges.
Use angle grinders constantly.
They're all over the shop.
One of the favorite tools.
Not on my list, though, but it is something that I use
constantly.
