Episode 20 - Mystery Men

Okay, so this week was actually recommended by a man.

We love it.

My friend Declan recommended that we watch Mystery Men.

So that's what we watched this week.

The 1999 film starring Ben Stiller, Janine Garofalo, Pee Wee Herman.

Sorry, what's his real name? Pee Wee Herman is his real name.

Yeah.

Hank Azaria, of course, doing some offensive accent.

Crazy film, superhero film, but it's a comedy.

It's a 1999 superhero comedy film directed by Kinka Usher and written by Neil Cuthbert.

Did you know it was based on a comic book series?

I did.

I did do that research.

What was it called? The Flaming Carrot

Comics.

Bob Burden's Flaming Carrot Comics.

And what's funny is the main character, Flaming Carrot, is not in the movie.

Oh, that's funny.

I didn't realize that.

I know that as far as the characters that were in it, they added Janine Garofalo's character.

I would love to know the story

behind how Janine Garofalo, was she the first choice for the writer-director and this is who they were picturing? Or were they trying to do something else and then...

They thought it was Ben Stiller-like.

Let's use my friend Janine.

And then they wrote everything around her.
