What's bizarre to me, though, is that it, that t- that level of hypnotization, if that's the right word, is possible at all in the human consciousness.
You know, so I was, I was just looking through videos today and having a, a bizarre time of, you know, witnessing basketball players who forget how to jump.
Now, you're going to-- I think you're going to correct my use of the word forget there, but I'm going to kind of purposely, uh, lay this up for you a bit.
You know-
... people for- people forgetting their first name, people acting like, like, like adult women acting like little girls.
H-how can we ex- understand this? Can you kind of, kind of step by step bring it-- 'Cause, 'cause when I look at those kinds of videos, that's what I mean by scam.
I'm like, they're clearly in on it.
I don't really believe what I'm watching.
So kind of explain this.
Uh, but, you know, look, we, um, carry with us a store of memories about what it was like to be a child.
Um, and we, you know, lay on top of that our memories of growing up and going to school and becoming an adult.
But that doesn't mean that you can't reconnect with what it was like to be a kid.
And sometimes we all do things that are silly or people get a little drunk and they do it that way.
Um, but, um, what hypnosis allows you to do, for those who are pretty hypnotizable, is not just remember but relive an experience.
Um, and, you know, you think about for, yes, there is hypnotic forgetting where you, you know, can't remember, uh, the number four and, you know, you ask them to count and they'll go one, two, three, five, six, seven, eight, you know, and they're puzzled by it.
But the converse of that is you can also, um, remember things you didn't think you could remember.
So I had a Stanford student who was extremely hypnotizable, and I had him go back and relive his fifth birthday, and he blew out the candles on the cake and giggled.
And, um, I-- usually when people do that, they, they're not verbal and they'll-- I'll tickle them, you know, then they'll giggle and all this.
