Derek Hall’s Development in Seattle0:42 – 1:45

0:42

As a first example, let's look at his tenure the last two seasons in Seattle and edge rusher Derek Hall.

0:49

Hall was the second round pick out of Auburn in 2023.

0:53

He wasn't great as a rookie as he had zero sacks.

0:57

However, sacks are not the best metric to look at with pass rushers.

1:02

I've always found it's better to look at pressures.

1:05

Pressures include sacks, but also plays like quarterback hits and plays in which the defender gets close enough to the quarterback to put pressure on him.

1:15

Pressure rate is pressures divided by pass rush snaps, and all the data that I will mention in this episode is from PFF.

1:24

Derek Hall as a rookie had an 8% pressure rate.

1:28

That is not good, as the NFL average for an edge rusher is 11.6%.

1:35

McDonald showed up in 2024 as the head coach, and Derek Hall has gotten better every season.

1:41

He had a 12.2% pressure rate in 2024, and then he had a 15.8% pressure rate in 2025.
