Courtney WalshHostUh, he, by his own admission, uh, we just left the press conference for, with Matt Renshaw not, not long ago, and by his own admission, Courtney, he said that he doubted he'd get back here.
Um, you know, went to India and Bangladesh later in 2017, was dropped from before the Ashes.
Uh, took him quite a while to get back into the side at all, uh, back in 20t- early 2023.
Oh, he did play, sorry, he did play that one test in South Africa eight years ago, uh, following, following, um, the ball tampering saga.
Um, played those tests in 2023, went on several scores, didn't happen for him, and he admitted that with those false starts in 2023, thought, "That, that's probably gonna be it." And then even last month, a couple of months ago in, um, Mackay when he played, you know, he failed first up.
And then, yes, they picked him for this tour, but you're wondering, is this ever gonna actually happen for him? And it happens, and of all positions, it happens at number five, which is a whole nother story.
I mean, well, clearly you'd take a c- a century in any circumstances, and his breakthrough century for in, in, in international cricket came against Zimbabwe last month in a one dayer.
Now, they're nice where- whenever they come, but, you know, that's chalk and cheese in terms of importance.
And yes, there were excellent contributions from the tail, the lower order, particularly Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon, and as a collective they did really well.
But ultimately this doesn't happen without Matt Renshaw and his ability to absorb strike, absorb the strike, um, to work up and down through the gears, to be really sensible, um, to play.
