The First Born

Okay, well, Jesus was the firstborn to Mary and Joseph.

Or you might go back to Cain and Abel, right? That they were the firstborn.

But I'm not talking about that.

I'm talking about Jesus who died on the cross and was the firstborn to receive his glorified body.

In my opinion, this is, I don't know, maybe it's controversial because he wouldn't have been able to be reborn if he didn't die.

This event shows what happens to us after our physical death.

You see, it's crazy to think that, oh, we're just all going to go to heaven and let's just get to heaven, let's just get to heaven forever.

But isn't it what we do here on earth while we're alive get us to heaven? And is heaven the place that we stop at? It's not the stopping place.

It's a place that we will go, but it's not the place we will end up in.

So let's start with Colossians 1, 17 through 18.

And he is before all things.

And in him all things consist.

And he is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things he may have preeminence.

Here, firstborn is protokos.

Protokos.

it refers to the first among others who will follow.

Here, it's showing us that Jesus was the first to rise from the dead and receive his glorified body.

And this means that we're gonna follow and receive our glorified bodies as well.

You know, this is the hope that we have that at our passing, we have this promise of living forever with him.

It goes on to say in Colossians 1, 19 through 23, "'For it pleased the Father that in him "'all the fullness should dwell, "'and by him to reconcile all things to himself, "'by him whether things on earth or things in heaven, "'having made peace through the blood of his cross.'" and you who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now he has reconciled in the body of his flesh through death to present you holy and blameless and above reproach in his sight, if indeed you continue in the faith grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

You know, I sit at my kitchen table and I ponder.

And as I ponder on this scripture, I wonder what it would be like to have this glorified body As we grow in the knowledge of the Lord, we go back, or at least I do, to the word that I have read so many times and sometimes I haven't paid no serious attention to.

Why? Why? Why? Because being in this walk with the Lord for 31 years, you read and the stories become so familiar, right? But as you start maturing in the things of the spirit, these things that I thought were so simple become so important because of its complexity and importance.
