Alyssa Cuffie OnuohaHostI stepped away to focus on the Sixpence Art Series, my one-month gallery pop-up that I shared in the last episode.
It ran through April, and it was an amazing, amazing spiritual experience, like... to have my own gallery, first of all, and then have hundreds, hundreds of members of the community come in and experience the art of Durham, of North Carolina, but What I want to lean into is the Durham Artist Archive exhibition.
This was one weekend where the artists from the pod were featured on the walls of the gallery.
In opening night, we have listeners and artists in the room at the same time.
And one of my favorite memories is... having someone ask me, is so-and-so from the podcast here by chance? And I said, yes, they're right there.
This is exactly what this whole event was about, right? Bringing this audio experience into real life, making it physical, and then watching those connections happen in real time was so delicious.
If we're the Durham Artist Archive, a part of my job is crowdsourcing information from this community, learning who you all love and highlighting those stories.
So even if I don't get to talk to everyone myself, you can hear their names and go check them out on your own time.
And before I tell you about anyone else's favorite artists, I have to sit in gratitude for a second because some of you turned the mic around on me.
The past year, you all saw me on Instagram sharing where I was drilling things, setting things up, hanging art.
You might have saw my substack posts, writing about my planning process.
And so being acknowledged for the actual outcome of all of that labor was really, really special.
