I work with a lot of high achievers, so I hear this often, and I actually see it in myself.

So if you have ever found that rest elicits a sensation of unsafety or in even shame or guilt, then this episode is for you.

So essentially, why this happens is from the moment we are born, we are picking up social cues, and those look like good and bad, and approval and disapproval, and even praise and punishment.

And from that point, our formative years, our brain is very much like still a donkey or a goat.

So people that are surrounding us, our parents are not our parents to our young minds.

So we're very basic in our wiring when we're young, and it's a beautiful survival pattern.

And to the brain, if we have ever been praised for doing, doing anything, then anything the opposite of doing, AKA rest, can be a threat to the brain.

Now, I know as we're talking this out, that may seem, uh, absolutely ridiculous, and so what do we do about it? Just by bringing awareness and understanding to why rest feels unsafe starts to loosen its grip, so it interrupts this unconscious pattern that had been running in the background.
