25th Tuesday in Ordinary Time - Year A

Hi, this is Father Nick Smith, pastor of St. Patrick's in Perry.

This strange little dialogue in this short gospel reading is not a denigration of the mother of God, but actually exalts her even more.

Jesus seems to keep his mother at arm's length by saying that his mother and his brothers are really those who hear the word of God and act on it.

Who heard the word of God and acted on it more than the mother of God? No one.

She is the most perfect human being.

She's the most perfect creature in all of God's creation.

She is worthy of our admiration, our honor, and our veneration because of the fact that she was the most faithful disciple of the Lord.

She more than anyone else heard the word of God and acted upon it.

Let us follow her example in this way, keeping the mysteries of the Lord, meditating on them in our hearts day by day, hour by hour, so that we may be worthy to be called the disciples of the Lord as well.

Blessed are those who hear the word of God and act upon it.

May God bless you and let us continue praying for each other.
