Todd SpiveyGuestHilary WinnIt does bring to mind, though, something that I heard in the winter this past winter.
Let's go way back to late February of 2026 as Joe Nicosia of Allenburg Cotton was giving his Cotton Outlook speech at the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show.
Now at the time he mentioned that there were gonna be three factors that could send cotton prices skyward this season in 2026.
And so it was exciting when Joe said in February that we had three opportunities to see prices climb this year.
which, as we've just recounted, that is unfortunately happening here in the American Southwest.
The Brazilian crop has had its weather issues of its own, and that has been the major factor in the bullish run that we've seen this crop go on, the market go on, here in recent weeks.
I mean, every time I poke in there, I feel like we're at 88 cents here the past couple weeks.
That's something to be excited about, as I said, given the context of where we've been for the past couple of years.
Now, the second factor that Nicosia mentioned back in February, remember there were three total, so the second one was the prospect of striking some trade deals with some key partners.
Now, we've seen some announcement there, some announcements about trade deals being struck.
The final and third most exciting factor, at least the one that had Joe Nicosia most excited at the time that he was talking about this back in February, was this prospect of passing the Buying American Cotton Act, also known as BACA, to be shorthanded.
It makes so much sense that it's amazing to me that we haven't already done this in the past.
