4 psychological reasons you cant stop spending money (and what to do about it)

Now, spending is one of those things, especially as women, that we're kind of told is frivolous, told that it's something we just need to nip in the bud.

It's just one of those things that you can't do.

You're doing too much of it.

You know, the old avocado on toast argument.

That's why you can't buy a house.

We've been historically shamed for spending.

Spending in general is, is seen to be shameful.

I even get, you know, snarky comments from people online if I spend money on something.

I thought you were supposed to be teaching people to be good with money.

Yep, I am.

[laughs] Um, that's not about not spending.

There is so much room for healthy and mindful spending in our lives, and we can absolutely make room for that in our budgets.

We don't need to stop spending altogether, but we need to develop control and autonomy and reason, psychological safety around where our money goes and our spending decisions.

So much of our emotion transmits through how we spend our money.

So when we're feeling avoidant, when we're feeling shameful, when we're feeling, um, insecure, when we're lacking confidence, so much of that shows up in our finances.

I always say you gotta treat your transaction list like a mirror.

Your transaction list and where your money is going will tell you a lot about what is going on in your emotions and how your money is wearing a lot of that cost.
