Owning Purchase Regret
A purchase mistake need not last forever.
Do you have a realistic plan to use this item in the future? That's tricky because often a lot of the items in our homes, we don't actually have a realistic plan.
So now I've really got to decide, am I going to keep it? You might have books that you haven't read.
So are you keeping like five additional pillows in the linen cupboard? Do you have an actual plan to use them in the future? You're like, yeah, I guess maybe if one of my kids has that many friends over, I would need that many pillows.
If I needed this in the future, how easily would it be for me to access, borrow, rent or replace it? And so sometimes we keep really big items for like the what-ifs and then those situations don't eventuate and we're kind of scared to get rid of the item.
But if in your mind you're like, actually, it would be really easy for me to repurchase that item or use something instead of or borrow it, it can allow you that freedom to get rid of the item.
We had a queen blow-up mattress and two singles so that if we went camping, we could use them.
