Roland-Philippe KretschmarHostSo I actually want to go back to maybe the fundamental question, like when did you know that you are an artist?

I know that I was triggered by art and I was pulled by art, but mainly painting at the time when I was a boy, like 14, 15, 16 years old.

And I didn't think that I would ever be able to become an artist, but in a way something pulled me in.

And my father said, when I once later told him I want to become an artist, he said, ah, when you're an artist, you're already with one leg in the criminal.

At the time it was difficult and complicated but at the end I thought maybe this was good because I needed something to fight against and it helped me to become stubborn and to do what I wanted to do.
So when you said you had to kind of fight to become an artist, was it like a negotiation of what you need, like when you entered university, like when you wanted to study? No,

it was like my father, you know when you're a scholar and you want to study, mostly the parents pay you.

And he strictly said, if you want to study, are they not paying? And let's have an agreement, you try to make a profession first and then eventually you still can become an artist.

And afterwards I went to the art university and paid my studies by myself, so I was working besides.
