Sam DignamHostElliot PaisleyHostSo before we get into those reviews, we've got a little bit of the week's news.
And I think it's some definitely notable news, but news that we can, I think, cut through fairly quickly.
It comes from Machine Head, who recently I saw, a couple of weeks ago, they posted a whole thing on social media, sort of officially wrapping up the Unatoned cycle, being like, yeah, this was the last two years for us.
um but rather than take a break or anything from that they're just striking while the iron is hot because we got a new single out this week as well it's called sutures what do we make of it

i think i'm calling time on finding machine head to kind of engage in creative force like obviously unatoned is the worst machine head album and i think this song is probably better but yeah at the same time that chorus is horrid like the worst kind of like us radio rock sort of thing on of course like the verses are okay you know machine head playing a bit harder cool i'm happy with that it's got a bit of like a bit more bite to it on that but the moment every time that chorus comes in and it starts with that clean chorus as well it's just kind of like oh it's machine head no like you're so good at doing something and you seem to be dancing around doing the thing you're really good at to do things you're not good at
like even though i don't like any of it they haven't really done the same thing twice in the last 10 years and for a band this long in the tooth i do think that's cool but the problem is that if the best thing they've done in that time which is probably like of kingdom and crown I'd give that maybe a six.
I know people like it more than me, but it's been a long time since I've loved a Machine Head album.
And, you know, when I saw, like, the single art for this and the name and the logo and all of that stuff, that slimy cover, I started thinking, like, are we going to get, like, an old-school, early noughties metalcore track? You know, something like Shadows Fall or Kill Switching, a sort of thing more conducive to the thing.
Like, the riffs in the verses particularly, they are full-on, like, New Wave of American Heavy Metal style riffs.
2000s you know Melodeath into metalcore riffs and that I'm down with and I do think production at least is a bit better than on the last album but then so it is that like you're saying but then it switches into the chorus and it's suddenly not that
Because there's moments in there where I'm going, this almost sounds like The Way of All Flesh, or, you know, sort of late 90s Morbid Angel.
it sounds like a piss take and it doesn't work and it's the sort of thing where you know Machina I think as much as it has always kind of been Rob's you know property when it last felt like a gang it was like these songs sound like they were being crafted in a room and ideas were bouncing off each other doing something like that it's like that only happens when you're sort of a you know a king with a laptop it's like these kind of songs only sort of come to be if there isn't someone or a group of people or whatever it is going are we sure about that because it's just so incoherent
