Hyperblasts: Hetfield Woes, Deafheaven WOAHs

Yeah, that's good to hear.

I went to two shows this week that I guess you could describe as double denim between the two of them.

Because I had...

Just for, again, the fate of scheduling, an incredibly heavy metal week.

And the first show I want to speak about is one that I know a few people, whether it was on this tour or maybe at the big festival event that it appeared at, have, you know, there's been a bit of interest around it.

I went to see none other than Mr. Blaze Bailey, the former singer, of course, for Iron Maiden for two albums in the 90s.

And he's been, you know, Blaze Bailey is around.

He played with his own band regularly.

He always puts out albums regularly.

But there was a particular interest around this tour, because what he has done for this tour is decided to go out.

It's labelled the Anniversary Tour.

I guess, you know, 96, there isn't a specific anniversary, I would say, of one of those albums.

But it's just like 30 years, basically, roughly, since he was in Iron Maiden doing these songs.

And so he's done a tour playing his Iron Maiden material for the people who want to hear that.

And it was, you know, he's dispersed him with some other songs as well.

But I saw that he was doing this, and I've never seen Blaze Bailey in any capacity before this.

But I thought...

I have to go and see that because Iron Maiden is not only a band, of course, I love to this day, but such a formative band for me and a band who, when I was like 13, 14 years old, I was devouring all of their records as much as I could do.

And the Blaze Bailey Iron Maiden albums, of course, that's the X Factor and Virtual Eleven, they're not great albums overall.

That's definitely true.

But I've always maintained there's a good...

Between those two albums, there's between six to eight songs across the two of them that I do really, really like.

And they're songs that I've never seen Iron Maiden play.

There have been odd occasions over the last 25 years since Bruce came back where they have played the odd songs.

blaze bailey song but i would say those days are probably gone now i would imagine for the rest of iron maiden's career they're just gonna be focusing on you know the the classic material and and the new material um so i was like i don't think i'm gonna see iron maiden playing some of these songs and i want to go out and show respect for the guy right who whatever you think of his albums i think a lot of people have a certain level of respect for i don't know the the blaze bailey's time in the band like the kind of the stick that he was handed the way it all came to an end and how he's kind of conducted himself like you know he was in the iron maiden documentary that came out uh was it last year as well um and i thought this is absolutely the time to go out and see it so i went to see it blaze bailey doing his iron maiden set and they really they made uh you know he's got a band who are all you know younger than him but they all play the part well and they they made a meal of it being the iron maiden tour in the sense that um you will know if you've seen iron maiden live every iron maiden show starts with uh doctor doctor by ufo coming over the pa and they opted to the first thing they do before blaze himself comes out the band come out and just start ripping into a cover of doctor doctor straight away and so we're in a club setting right but when you've got the maiden fans who by the way i like that you know the rule of iron maiden shirts always being worn to the iron maiden show I like that that also applies to people who were in Iron Maiden 30 years ago, because it was only Iron Maiden shirts or Blaze Bailey shirts.
