Thank you for being here! This episode is for anyone who feels like they should be optimising every single part of their life right now and is quietly burning out trying to do it. The biggest…
Christina PengillyHostOkay, I will preface this by saying I'm going to have one opinion around this today.
And for everything that I say, I also, in certain situations and like with context provided, I might disagree on.
But I want to talk about like the unproductive side of the world and especially social media right now when it comes to life maxing everything with 5,000 Xs in the middle of maxing.
Because what I know to be true is that that can be, and it is for a lot of people, the most unproductive thing that we can focus on when it comes to achieving our life, when it comes to feeling fulfilled in our life, grounded in our life, capable in our life.
you know, not running on fumes and being at capacity with everything that we do in our life for the sake of maxing.
And a lot of the time, like I mentioned, trying to optimize every single area of your life is nine times out of 10, if not 10 times out of 10, the reason why you're not actually seeing the progress that you know you can have, or maybe you're seeing the progress, but you feel like fucking shit internally as a result of how hard you are pushing yourself when that is not necessarily going to be the thing that's going to get you the outcome that you want to have.
Now, I am not for, I really want to be mindful of not adding in a thousand disclaimers here because I want to trust that you guys can hold the duality of this conversation.
But then there's going to be certain things that I just want to make a point of.
I am all for being someone who makes your dreams and goals happen as a result of actually putting in effort for those things to happen.
And there is going to be a different season required for every other thing that you want.
right? So I'm not saying that getting to where you want to get to in life or achieving this big goal is going to require you to just sit on your ass, write in a journal, go for a walk, do some breath work.
And I think in the world that we live in now, the pendulum just swings so far of one of two ways.
So you've got people that are just like, this is so like overachieving, life maxing, everything has to be optimised.
But the reality of the human experience is that not everything can be optimized at once.
So even if that is being said, it is likely that that is like a performative thing, as opposed to the other end of the spectrum where people are like, yeah, I just, you know, I'm just going to go with the flow and what's meant to be is going to be and that's that.
But as a result, they're not actually putting in any work or not actually putting in any effort to get the outcome that they want.
And I want to talk to more so the optimizing lens today, but then... actually just speak to it from how we can get to a beautiful equilibrium where you are maxing your life, but not in the way that social media has made you think is normal or that you have to.
