The first one we're going to talk about is Vexus syndrome, new code M04.3.

The word Vexus is created using letters for the conditions that characterize the syndrome.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a gene change is responsible for vexus syndrome.

But this change happens after birth, so it's not a hereditary condition.

Now, while the cause of the gene change is not known, the changed gene is called a UBA1 mutation.

The E1 enzyme, the E in vexus, is the enzyme that doesn't work correctly in this syndrome.

And vexus syndrome is an auto-inflammatory somatic condition, which is represented by the A and S in vexus.

And most people who are diagnosed with vexus are over the age of 50.

Now, the symptoms vary from patient to patient, and vexus syndrome may cause myelodysplastic syndromes, blood clots, or bone marrow failure.

The patient may also develop some serious infections due to the medications that they use to treat vexus.

Current treatment includes medications, chemotherapies, or even in some cases, a bone marrow transplant.

Now, this will be a new alphabetic index entry for Vexus syndrome, again, with proposed new code M04.3. M04 is our section for autoinflammatory syndromes.

And proposed, we're also going to get a new instructional note guiding the coder to code also any associated conditions.

The next new code in syndrome is Lynch syndrome, QA1.71. Now, unlike Vexus syndrome, Lynch syndrome is a genetic condition.

Again, according to the Mayo Clinic, those patients with Lynch syndrome have an increased risk for several different types of cancer.
