Episode 50: TSMC’s Globalization Paradox: Why Going Global May Make Taiwan Stronger

TSMC is expanding across the United States, Japan, and Europe. At first glance, that might seem to reduce Taiwan’s strategic importance. But what if the opposite is happening? In Episode 50 of *Taiwan Tech Dispatch*, White Hsu explores **TSMC’s globalization paradox**—how building a global manufacturing footprint may actually strengthen Taiwan’s position at the center of the semiconductor industry. Starting with TSMC’s European expansion in Dresden, we examine why Europe’s semiconductor strategy is driven not just by AI, but by automotive, industrial manufacturing, and supply-chain resilience. We then break down the three layers of TSMC’s competitive moat: **technology, execution at scale, and a global trust-based manufacturing network**. As TSMC expands from Taiwan to the U.S., Japan, and Europe, semiconductor competition is becoming more than a race for the most advanced process node. It is becoming a competition over who can build the world’s most reliable and trusted manufacturing system. And Taiwan may remain at the heart of it. **If you enjoy deep analysis of Taiwan’s technology industry, semiconductors, AI, and its role in the global economy, follow Taiwan Tech Dispatch and share this episode with someone who wants to understand why Taiwan matters to the future of technology.** \-- Hosting provided by SoundOn
