Episode 98: Crime and punishment

I saw something in the news though this week which really did fuck with my calm.

And I think it's good that this fucked with my calm.

I don't want to just be on an island and just be separate from the world and not involved in any way in the goings on of the world.

I want to stay connected to different issues and things that are happening on this planet.

And I saw something this week that really...

It made me uneasy.

I saw that the American government, the Trump administration, is putting forward plans to live stream an execution.

The American government, I believe, has, since in Trump's second term, they've... put an end to I think capital punishment the death penalty it's it's been phased out of a lot of countries and societies around the world and in America I believe it was being phased out but Trump has kind of put a stop to that and it's back on the agenda.

The killing of criminals as punishment for their crimes has sort of come back in.

It's in vogue again.

But that's one thing.

The live streaming of it...

That is a whole other step.

That's a whole other ballgame.

There's not many countries in the world that do public executions.

I think there's a handful of countries.

I'm not really sure where.

I think...

I don't know.

You'd have to check.

But there are a few countries that do it.

And I think it is...

I think it's a horrific, a horrific thing and a very clear sign that your society is troubled if you're publicly executing criminals.

Because what are the reasons for publicly executing criminals, right? I feel like the...

prime reason like because you might you might look at this story of america and be like yeah but that guy did a mass shooting the guy that they're going to execute he i don't know the story that well he he was on a military base i think in 2009 and he murdered maybe 13 people and injured a lot more.
