CM PUNK: WHY IS HE WWE CHAMP IN 2026? | SPORTSKEEDA WRESTLING

Yes, Sami Zayn was supposed to take on Cody Rhodes, the man he pinned for the title, less than two weeks ago at Night of Champions.

Yeah, that was set up, but Cody got laid out by Gunther Pau.

powerbomb by the ring general backstage through a table and written out of this big match.

And then, immediately, the chants came in.

CM Punk, CM Punk.

You could hear the crowd.

They knew what was gonna happen.

Here, locally, everyone knew you were getting CM Punk.

Coming back in Chicago, it makes the most sense.

It's his hometown.

Come on! He's the second city saint, and that's exactly what you got.

Sometimes predictability is good, and this is that case.

You knew once that kind of happened, and we were still getting a match, that we were gonna get CM Punk in this match.
