Free money for kids? Not so fast. Trump Accounts could become one of the newest long-term wealth-building tools for families, but you need to understand how they work, who qualifies, and how they fit…
To start, let's talk about what exactly is a Trump account, because a lot of people have been hearing about these, but what is it actually and how do they actually work? Trump accounts were created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the OBBA, and they were designed for children under the age of 18.
Technically, a Trump account is going to work similar to a traditional IRA with a few special rules into it.
These are brand new types of vehicles that are out there, becoming available July 4th of 2026 to the public.
Parents, grandparents, friends, employers, and organizations, they can all contribute to these Trump accounts.
There's tax-free growth inside of the account, and you cannot withdraw funds before the age of 18.
The core idea or concept about this is that America wants families investing in U.S. markets earlier and longer, and they want children to start thinking about that compounding growth.
And so the more people they can start to put money into savings at a younger age and just compounding and compounding means that there's going to be more there for retirement.
So the government, again, with anything we talk about tax strategy, there's a tax incentive somewhere on there.
They want people investing in U.S. markets at an earlier and younger age so they can grow
longer.
Now, also, if you're interested in learning more about these, signing up for an account, doing all those things, go to TrumpAccounts.gov. We're going to talk about everything here, but TrumpAccounts.gov is where you can start to get into that.
