Michael S. Dell

When I went and started a business, I also listened to biographies of successful business people.

And at the time, it was like Michael Dell, Richard Branson, people like that in 2010.

And when I listened to their biographies, I wasn't interested in their business strategies.

What I was interested in is what was the price that they had to pay to get to where they are? It's

interesting that you think in that way, right? So most people would be interested in their business strategies and they wouldn't, it's sort of an unusual thing to think of, well, what was Michael Dell's price? Nobody would even care about that, but you did.

Why did you care about that?

Because what I realized is, and I don't know where I learned this, but I learned it early on, that you can achieve anything you want, right? But there's always some sort of a price.

And it, I think it's worth pointing out that we don't hate all the same people the same way.

Like, like, um, my son just had to go to the hospital a couple of months ago, and, and so we spent three nights in, in Dell Children's Hospital, which was a, a not fun experience, but I did send Michael Dell a text after.

I'm like, "You should be incredibly proud of what you've done." And I think it's worth pointing out that there are, there are some billionaires who are using their power and influence to do things that people don't hate.

But you have to stay rooted in reality and, to go to your point about empathy, to know what people want and need.

And then finally, broader industry is coming together.

You know, Jamie Dimon, Michael Dell, myself, many others, dozens of CEOs coming together to make sure that we're coordinated around our critical industries and making sure that we're taking safety very seriously.

So I don't think we've invested this much time and energy in safety before a new technology in my 25 years in Silicon Valley.

And if you listen to the echo chamber this week, you would think that we were hurdling ahead, uh, you know, uh, uh, with total disregard to safety, and it's simply not true.
