Rachel WeinermanGuestBut to begin with, I wanted to talk about my own fertility and egg freezing journey.
I really think it's something that people don't discuss, and I think it should be discussed.
Because if a guy can look at women's profiles and basically not be open to dating women over a certain age or women older than them, like, it's disgusting.
Like, it's actually vile and disgusting, and their reasoning is, "Oh, I wanna have kids." Well, maybe you should learn the facts before you say that kinda stuff.
And as someone who's actually gone through the process and knows a lot more about my own fertility and fertility in general, I see these and I'm extra disgusted by it.
And honestly, when I see that, I really, I don't mean to put ayin hara and bad out into the world, but just letting you know when I see that, I genuinely, genuinely hope that those people don't find what they're looking for.
Because if they're gonna be so bigoted and so uneducated about the fact and just make these dumb, uneducated remarks, like, they don't deserve it.
So anyway, enough of that rant.
I wanted to tell you guys about my own egg freezing journey.
So as you guys know from my other episodes, I'm 32, and I probably started thinking about egg freezing in my late 20s.
I, I wanna say I asked my doctor probably when I was, like, 28 maybe.
And I had asked her, and she was like, "Oh, you know..." Or maybe I, I was even younger than that.
I might've been 27.
And she told me, she's like, "You don't need to do it yet, but, like, it's a good thing that you're thinking about it." So as time went on, I started my current job that I'm at now.
I started my current job at the end of 2022.
And so end of 2023, beginning of 2024, we got our benefits emails, what's new on our plan, everything for my insurance that I get through work.
And one of the new things that my insurance was offering was egg freezing benefits starting in 2024.
So I said to myself, "This would be a good time to do it." I had just turned 30, and we got the email, and I had my doc- my annual doctor's appointment, and I mentioned it to my doctor, and she said it's a great idea to look into, especially if my insurance covers it.
And so I actually kept putting it off.
[laughs] If, a fun fact about me is I am a major procrastinator.
Sometimes it'll take me forever just to, like, get in motion, and then once I'm in motion, I just have to do everything all at once.
So I had this discussion with her at the beginning of 2024, and I never actually did anything about it.
It was at the back of my, it was on the back of my mind.
I was like, "Oh yeah, I, I need to look into that.
I need to look into that." And at some point mid-2024, I had the realization that I pay so much for insurance, like, out of my paycheck, I'm like, "I should start going to the doctor." I was going to that one doctor, and as you know as women, we sometimes have multiple doctors that we need to go to a year.
