Elizabeth SchooleyGuestSylvia ConwayHostAnd in terms of sample variability, does it make a difference to the results if I run my in-house screening profiles on plasma or on serum?

Yes, for in-house on your catalyst chemistry analyzer, Either sample is acceptable.

So serum or heparinized plasma can be used on the catalyst as well as you can use whole blood.

So you can use that and it'll centrifuge the plasma within the catalyst itself to save you a step.

On a, like from a truly practical perspective, I do always recommend that we follow the same sample type whenever we're trending.

So if you start with serum, continuous serum, if you start with plasma or with whole blood that it turns into plasma, then I would stick with that same sample type.

We don't see any major differences between the results on serum or plasma.

So any little difference when you're trending from one time point to another, it can just add noise and potentially make it a little more difficult to interpret if you've got subtle changes or not.
