*The courage worth honoring comes from confidence in God*.
Keith ChristensenHostNow, if you've been here for our previous sermons in Judges, then the words that begin chapter 4 will sound very familiar to you.
Every time a new major judge cycle begins, we hear the exact same report that ancient Israel has gone back to their old sins.
So chapter 4 begins another narrative about another judge in ancient Israel.
So, in the years before chapter 4, the godly influence of Ehud had been holding the people back from their evil.
Now, for one thing, that shows you what a great impact a godly leader can have.
how much your example, your influence can be used of God to hold back evil in those around you.
Now, we can't change anyone's heart, but we can be salt that preserves even the unregenerate among us to some degree, as it was in Ehud.
Now, for another thing, the regression of Israel after Judge Ehud died, that showed that their prior reformation towards so much good, it really was not due to a true change of heart, because when their circumstances changed again, when they were not under that same godly authority, so they felt freer to do what they wanted, they again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.
So how do you know if someone's Personal reformation, if positive change in their life is owing to a true internal work of God.
And it's not just external circumstances shifting and pressuring them in a certain direction.
Does the change last? To some degree, even when there are different circumstances and when different pressures come or when the pressures go and things are safe and easy again.
