Jael

This is Deborah, who again was one of the judges.

Judges 5 and verse number six: "In the days of Shamgar, the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travelers walked through byways.

The inhabitants of the villages ceased; they ceased in Israel until that I, Deborah, arose, that I arose a mother in Israel.

They choose, uh, they chose new gods.

If someone comes by and asks, is anyone in there? Say, no.

But Jael, Heba's wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted.

She drove the peg through his temple into the ground and he died.

Just then Barak came by in pursuit of Cicero and Jael went out to meet him.

Come, she said, I will show you the man you're looking for.

So he went in with her, and they laced Sarah with a tent peg through his temple, dead.

A Kenite woman.

Not even an Israelite woman.

Now, I want us to move to the mantle of Elijah.

[cheering] We have spoken about the mantle of Jael, and we've spoken about the mantle of Samuel, and now we are going to the mantle of Elijah.

[cheering] Glory to God.

[cheering] Now, the mantle of Elijah.

Yes.

[laughs] Mm.

Your mothers were Jael's- Right ... and others.

All right.

You know, over at Faith That Speaks, I, I told you guys I'm studying 10 women of the Bible right now, starting with Deborah, who was a judge over Israel.

And next week I'm gonna be studying Jael, who really, Jael's story is a fulfillment of a prophecy that Deborah made to Barak when he was too big of a chicken to go to war without a woman standing next to him.

So she's like, "Dude, I mean, I'll go with you, but God's gonna, God's gonna give Sisera into the hands of a woman," and that's exactly what he did.

He gave Sisera into the hands of Jael.

Women, you can be completely feminine, faithful to the Lord, and still fierce in your defense of His Word, still fierce in your defense of the unborn, still fierce in your willingness to show up for city council meetings and school board meetings.

I don't know what it's gonna take to wake this generation of Christians up.

Not a man was left.

However, Sisera had fled away on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Hebor the Kenite.

For there was peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Hebor the Kenite.

And Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me, do not fear.

And when he had turned aside with her into the tent, she covered him with a blanket.

Then he said to her, Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.

So she opened a jug of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him.

And he said to her, Stand at the door of the tent, and if any man comes and inquires of you and says, Is there a man here? You shall say, No.
