Renewable Heating Hub Homeowners' Q&A

Home battery sales in the UK have doubled in two years. Every solar company has added one to their quote. Every energy supplier has a deal. But is anyone actually explaining what you need to know…
So I think the, the, the biggest thing that we see is that from a homeowner's perspective, there's still a very big assumption that batteries are only for people who, who have solar PV.
Would you agree with that?
Uh, absolutely not, no. Um, I believe that the, a, a battery is the, the heartbeat of any home that's trying to electrify now, absolutely.
Um, it is a, a massive benefit if you do have solar, uh, by all means, but it's not a dead stick in terms of, "I don't...
I can't have solar," whether it's been because of a slate roof, because I'm in a conservation area, and other factors that you can't have solar.
You can, uh, push forward in your renewables journey and still have battery just on its own.
Uh, and we've implemented that a few times, um, with, uh, without solar in the past.
Uh, one client of ours, she was in a conservation area, and we, and she was already on the Octopus EV tariff.
She had 7p a kilowatt, so we charged her that 7p a kilowatt, then 20 kilowatts worth of battery, uh, and then just dispersed it during the day.
Uh, solar panels are getting a, a, a lot cheaper, but you've gotta weigh it up in terms of, um, return on investment.
You know, you've gotta take into consideration rigs, you know, if it's on different pitches and stuff like that.
So is, is solar the best return on investment? I do believe that battery straightaway does have that return on investment on day one.
