Let me start by taking some pressure off because I think a lot of us believe discipleship has to look a certain way.

The perfect family devotional, everyone's sitting still, the right book, the right time, the candle lit.

But if that's the only place you think discipleship happens, you are going to miss 90% of the opportunities God gives you.

It happens in the unscheduled one, in the car, at the sink, in a checkout line, on vacation, in the ordinary running everyday flow of your life.

Listen to how God tells parents to do this in Deuteronomy chapter 6, verses 6 through 9.

These words which I am commanding you today shall be on your heart, and you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and daughters, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.

You shall also tie them as a sign to your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead.

You shall also write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates." Did you catch the rhythm of that? God says, talk about me when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up and write my words on your doorposts.

This is your whole ordinary day, morning, evening, coming, going, sitting, walking.

Take every opportunity, the tiny ordinary ones, and weave a conversation about who God is right into them.
