Get Going, Get Growing...and be a BLESSING!!

And I'm walking because I'm following, not literally, but figuratively, in the footsteps of our first patriarch, Avraham Avinu Abraham.

God told him in this week's Torah portion, Lech Lecha, that he had to make sure to get 10,000 steps in every day.

Well, not exactly, but it's true.

The first commandment the Torah records God giving to our patriarch Abraham was, Lech, go, walk.

and he was being told to leave his homeland, his father's house, to go to the land that I will show you, what we call later the land of Israel.

But it really is true that the first directive given to our patriarch is lech l'cha, go, walk.

for yourself, for your own benefit to the land I'll show you, and there I'll make your name great, and you shall be a blessing.

That's what it says.

So I'm walking right now, and the truth, I'm not gonna walk all the way to Eretz Israel.

That would be amazing.

I'd like to get to Eretz Israel soon.

But in any case, a Jewish person has to go.

Always be going, always be growing.

Even the word for Jewish law, halacha, is from the same root, lech, because we're supposed to be growing and progressing in life.

And the mitzvot of the Torah are beautiful connectors of us to God, to our fellow man, to the deepest part of ourselves.

But all of the mitzvot help us go and grow.

That's why it's called halacha, like halicha.

Oh boy.

So I'm walking in the...

Footsteps of our ancestor, Avraham Avinu.

Every Jewish person has a spark from Avraham Avinu, from Avraham, our forefather.

That ability to go, that ability to always be growing.
