What do you learn about government once you're on the inside? In this episode of QNA: Questions Need Answers, Munch sits down with Miami Gardens Councilwoman Katrina Baskin for an honest conversation…
How did you get from teaching into politics? Like, take us through that road because...
You know, we talked to Shev, like, you know, and Shev was like, he was a teacher.
And then somebody was like, he saw that, like, the kids and the literacy rates.
So for me, growing up in the church, we did a lot of community service, looking after the seniors, back to school drives, the toy drives, taking care of the homeless, cleaning the community, stuff like that.
And I'll never forget one morning we had to wake up five o'clock because we were going down to Key West to do some things.
And it dawned on me like, wait a minute, God was for even preparing me back then, like to even have that experience, like just to see how things were organized, see how to galvanize people, get them excited to get involved in taking care of the community, understanding that we are shepherds of our community.
So as a teacher, no matter what school I was at, I always found myself if I saw a need, like if there's a family in the community, they, you know, they're on hard times, they need groceries or kids need school clothes or whatever the case was.
