Now, lots of Baptist churches, not all, but lots of them have elders also and believe in elder rule.
In particular, who holds the keys of the kingdom? So churches do lots of things, you know, do, do the members, who approves the budget, you know, who does lots of things.
But in particular, the keys of the kingdom, I mean, who, who approves people to be members of the church and who disciplines people out of the church? In a Baptist church, they have congregational polity, which means the congregation together holds those keys.
Now, the elders may do all the vetting and present it to them, but the congregation has to vote.
Presbyterian church, yes, we care what people in the congregation think, but we believe that God has entrusted to the elders those keys.
They were often representatives who would be there to represent the people before Moses.
We know that when Jesus says in Matthew eighteen, "Tell it to the church," the mindset of a Jew would have been the Sanhedrin.
No, nobody thought tell it to the church meant have the whole synagogue vote on this.
Tell it to those leaders in the church who are God's chosen officers to, to rule on these matters.
