Is "Once Saved, Always Saved" Biblical? Can A Christian "Lose" Their Salvation?

A Christian... who is a genuine Christian, born again by the Holy Spirit, regenerated, puts faith in Christ, and then is justified, joined to Christ by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, that chain of salvation can never be undone.

And there's lots of texts to say this.

You could go to John 10, Jesus' promise about the good shepherd and the sheep, and he will not lose any of them.

That's John 6.

Or the language throughout John about you have eternal life.

It's not simply something that you will receive in the future.

Now, every Christian is now in the present possession of a life that can never end.

You can go to Romans 8, 28, that those whom he foreknew, this chain from election to effectual calling to justification to glorification.

Paul says, those whom he foreknew, he called.

Those whom he called, he justified.

Those whom he justified, he glorified.

There is no way for any link of that chain to be broken.

For known, and that's language for being known from before the foundation of the world with his electing love, his saving purposes.

So if you're chosen, he will call you savingly to himself, and you will put faith in him, you'll be justified, and you will ultimately be glorified.

Now, the only reason that I say the question needs some explanation is because we don't wanna think of once saved, always saved in a mechanical way.

So if the question is, will everyone who ever repeated a sinner's prayer be saved? No, because merely repeating a formula is not a necessary proof or rather you know an essential proof a fool proof that one has all of those benefits of being born again true faith justification it is possible for somebody to raise their hand at a church service to walk an aisle to I think of this at camp, throw a pine cone in the fire.

I don't know if any, but we did that.

You want to become a, you throw your pine cone in the fire and not have it really be a work deep in their heart.

So we want to guard against a mechanical view.

So you think about a vending machine.

as if our justification is just i put in let's see do i have a sinner's prayer okay i put in a sinner's prayer then i push the button and then i watch the little coil go around and i reach in there and i pull out saved all right i put in the sinner's prayer and then i got the the saved candy bar what would that be uh 10,000 grand or I don't know, something, what would be the...

So that's a mechanical view that you just say a magic formula and then voila, the rest of your life doesn't matter.

So we don't want to give people that kind of false assurance.

1 John 2 is a classic text.

It says that those who went out from us did not remain with us, and therefore they showed that they were never truly one of us.
