And in this storm of snow and hail, she should not have been able to withstand that pain.

The woman in the snow lifted her long, thin arms and banged on the door three times.

The wind swallowed up her voice, but Mara could see that she was saying something.

The woman's eyes suddenly darted across the window and landed straight on Mara.

She felt Ray standing behind her and he gently said, as he pulled on his jacket, I should go and help her.

This is the story about a woman named Mara and four hours earlier before any of that stuff happened Mara was in her car.

She was making a long journey to her parents house, the same house that she had grown up in and not much had changed in the 12 years since she had moved out.

Mara loved her family but she wasn't afraid to admit that she enjoyed the fact that there was some distance now between her and her parents home, about six hours distance to be precise.

Even at 33 years old, whenever Mara spoke to her mother, she always came away from the conversation feeling like a child who had yet again caused disappointment but on this drive this particular night none of that mattered because earlier that afternoon Mara's dad had called her at work and as soon as she heard his voice she knew something was wrong he sounded shaky and like he was trying really hard not to cry Mara's mum had been taken into hospital just minutes before with a suspected heart attack.

Mara gasped and the first thing she asked was if her mum was okay and her dad's words to her were that he wasn't sure.
