Generosity Series - When We Have Nothing, God Is Enough

morning, everybody.

Let's pull out our Bibles.

If you're like me, you might have a Bible on your phone.

I used to have a travel Bible, but the print got too small.

So

I

had to switch to something on my phone that I could control the font.

Anyway, I want you to make your way to 1 Kings 17.

We're going to read an interesting story there.

So the story here in 1 Kings, Prophet Elijah, at God's direction, has pronounced a drought on the land.

And the nature of it was that there would be absolutely no rain until God said through Elijah that there would be rain.

And so there's no rain.

The crops are failing.

Everything's drying up.

God sends Elijah to a hidden away brook because he's very unpopular at the moment for some reason.

And there he's fed by the ravens.

And that's where we're going to pick up the story.

So 1 Kings 17, beginning at verse 7. sometime later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

Then the word of the Lord came to him, go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there.

Now what that actually means is he's leaving Israel and he's going to the next country north, which is not his own country, but it is also being afflicted by the same drought.

So he says, go there and stay there.

And then the Lord says, I've directed a widow there to supply you with food.
