Uh, when we spend all this time talking about these practices, all these times talking about OTAs and mini camp and training camp and the Hudson Center and Ray Nitschke Field, at the end of the day, this game of kicking comes down to when the lights are on, you're out there on the field, can you make the kicks? And it just so happens that Trey Smack made two of the longest ones in Packers history-
... uh, in that game against Pittsburgh, and, and that's what this was all advertised as, right? When they drafted him, everybody talked about the leg strength and the leg power.
The guy is just a natural kicker, and for him to go out there, make all three of his field goals ...
Unfortunately, that first 58-yarder got waved off because of a penalty on former Pa- friend of the show-
He ends up still making, Smack that is, ends up making a 37-yard field goal, and then right before halftime, goes out there and makes a 58-yarder.
It was the biggest bright spot, and for the Packers making that investment, and us talking about some of the ebbs and flows that Smack has been through here early on, I, I think it was an encouraging performance for everybody involved.
One is that, as I believe we talked about, or if we didn't talk about it on the show, I know I mentioned it in, um, some of the writing from last week, that Acrisure Stadium, formerly known as Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, is not normally kind to kickers.
And I don't know for sure what officially the longest field goal made in that stadium is.
