Hundreds of thousands of Iranians rally earlier today in Tehran as part of a government-organized show of defiance following over six months of war meant to demonstrate the country's readiness to take up arms in what the AP says is the biggest demonstration of its kind since the U.S. and Israel began their war of choice against Iran on February 28th.
Entitled Janfadei Iran, or the ones who sacrificed their lives for Iran, columns of combat units marched through the downtown of the Iranian capital city in full-dress uniforms, carrying flags, as onlookers cheered and the country's president, Massoud Pazeshkian, looked on.
For days, state media in Iran has encouraged residents to join the military campaign, saying training with assault rifles will begin soon.
The volunteers, the report said, would be an additional layer of security to the country's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps paramilitary force and its all-volunteer arm, the Bazish.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Brigadier General Hassan Hassanzadeh told state media that over 600,000 Iranians had registered to participate, with over one million expected to take part in the training.
This morning, the state broadcaster estimated over 300,000 people in the streets as part of the demonstration.
