The way I think about power is that it is the capacity to decide what happens and to make that decision hold.

Media power is therefore the capacity to shape what becomes visible, credible, culturally important, economically viable and memorable, and to influence the infrastructure through which those judgments travel.

Your personal brand is absolutely important, but you are building it inside a system.

Editors select, publishers acquire, journalists frame, platforms recommend, search engines retrieve, media companies allocate capital, awards and prestigious institutions confer legitimacy, audiences distribute attention, owners decide where money continues flowing.

None of these actors possess complete control, but together they shape what society finds easy to notice.

The useful question is therefore not whether the system or the individual determines who becomes powerful.

The practical question is what you can build, what you can borrow, what you can influence, and what you eventually need to own.
