Paul DavidGuestMatt TharpHostThere was a line that you wrote, uh, it said something, "Founders treat marketing like a vending machine rather than a science." [laughs]

Um, yeah, I mean, it's something I really struggle with, like I, like I, I feel like I've been in two, two professions, like education and marketing, that like everyone thinks they know and can do and, and, and are, are like somewhat disrespect...

Like I say to the team, I'm like, "You-- they would never tell a brain surgeon like which scalpel or tool to use and which part of the brain to..." But like regularly people come in and like, "We need to do this.

This is, this is the problem and this is the, the tactic that we need to do." And I'm just like, "What?" Like, like that's your, your entry here is like, um...

I think, I think there's been a lot of waste, I think there's been a lot of deception, a lot of, um, frankly just like snake oil sales in, in, in marketing, and we need to own that.

Um, and so people come to us and we're like the house of the burned, you know, uh, house for the burned, like because they've, you know, they've had bad experiences with agencies and marketers.

So I think we need to do a better job of like self-organizing and regulating our profession, um, like doctors do or, you know, other, other sectors.
Which is interesting 'cause I feel like marketing is the place in your organization that should be the most scientific.
I think a lot of times it's like, well, gosh, I put fifty dollars in, shouldn't I be able to get, you know, a bag of Twinkies? Um, what drove you to write that? What, what's an example of something you've seen where you, you, you felt like that was the thing that needed to be said?
