October 6th is Talkie Movie Day. On the day film gained sound, we share Hideaki Miura's "Cinematic Tunes," a brass ensemble suite built as the soundtrack to an imaginary film by an imaginary studio…
The concept is delightful, a suite written for brass ensemble as the soundtrack to an imaginary film made by an imaginary studio.
It unfolds in five scenes, a dashing studio logo to open, then a troubled epic whose director and even its star walked off the set, a sweet serenade for a love scene, the madcap chase of an old cartoon, and at last the end credits, rolling by with gratitude.
It brims with love for the movies and a playful wit.
And it was performed again just this autumn at the Saitama Fanfare Club concert, so it is very much in season.
an imaginary film with real, thrilling music sounded by brass.
Today on Talkie Movie Day, we bring you Hideaki Miura's cinematic tunes for Brass Ensemble.
