This month we play a game about Balls and Pits (apparently the "x" is silent?) 🏥 support IGC on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/indiegameclinic 🎮 Ball x Pit…
Dan, did you wanna, like, describe the game for the people at home who haven't played it?
It's like pinball meets Vampire Survivors with, like, a side salad of Tetris inventory management base building.
Uh, you're like a little character at the bottom and you shoot balls out of God knows what orifice.
Uh, the, [laughs] the Steam library artwork portrays it as a mouth, but maybe it varies from character to character.
[laughs]
Uh, you're trying to progress through, like, a pit full of monsters that are continuously shuffling towards the bottom of the screen in a tightly packed grid formation.
If they get to the bottom, they deal a chunk of damage to you, so you don't want that happening much.
Uh, your weapon is balls that bounce around everywhere.
They damage enemies per bounce, so ricocheting your balls off walls and into gaps amongst enemy lines to get the most bounces out of a single ball as possible is, like, the thing to do.
And to help with that, the pit is vertically shaped like it's straight out of an early Crash Bandicoot level, with two walls either side for balls to bounce off.
Um, each level has three bosses.
Uh, beating all three is required to beat a level, however, every time a boss is about to show up, the pit will widen, giving you more room to run around.
Uh, you have four balls that you can shoot out automatically or manually.
Uh, pinballing enemies to death drops shiny bits.
Uh, your character will regularly pick up enough shiny bits to power up, allowing you to give your balls upgrades, such as delivering poison damage on hit or splitting up into more balls on hit.
And there's also the b- [laughs] there's also the base building.
Uh, [laughs] wh- when you're in the pit you'll collect, like, resources and blueprints, and these resources can be used to build houses in this base, uh, and they improve your stats and whatnot.
And so it renders the pit more and more beatable the more you play, so the pit and the base building, you know, very much aid each other.
Yeah, the base building also leans heavily into the pinball aspect.
You're, you're, like, allowed to unleash the harvest on your base once between pit runs.
Uh, a harvest is where you shoot out all unlocked characters out of God knows what orifice again.
Oh, so it's sort of-
